Tips For International Students To Get High-Paying Jobs In Canada

Tips For International Students To Get High-Paying Jobs In Canada

There are many reasons why international students choose to come to Canada. It is a country with an excellent education system, high quality of life, and employment opportunities that are growing quickly. One thing that all Canadians have in common is the need for talented workers. If you are an international student looking for work after graduation, there are many jobs available for you! In this blog post, we will talk about some of the best options for international students who want to continue their careers in Canada, and also some tips for international students to get high-paying jobs in Canada.

We'll first cover some tips:

1. Keep yourself updated

This is a given. To get a job in any country, you must be up to date on the new offers and changes in the field you want to work in. It is also important to keep in touch with the job market and find out which opportunities are available.

This can be done by reading newspapers (or their online versions), watching news broadcasts, browsing specialized websites for your industry/profession, and following social media pages of companies you like or respected professionals.

Also, remember that networking is key. Don't be afraid of cold-calling people and asking for informational interviews.

Another resource to keep in touch with the industry is "job boards". Check out websites such as Monster, LinkedIn, Indeed, etc. These job sites have a wide range of employment opportunities from all different industries.

2. Plan in advance

Even before you graduate, you should have a plan in mind. You might want to work at specific companies or you might have your business idea and need some financial support from the government for it.

In either case, make a list of all possible options and try to find out which ones will be available when you graduate (i.e., remember that most programs are only up to two years and then you have to apply again).

The other thing that is very important to remember when planning, especially for international students who are not permanent residents yet, is making sure you have your work permit sorted out before graduating. Most employers will require this document before hiring an employee and if you don't have one, getting a job might be difficult (if not impossible).

3. Build a strong resume

Need this to be said? A strong resume is a must to catch the attention of potential employers.

Keep your resume relevant, don't include irrelevant work experience or education, and make sure it is well written with no spelling mistakes. Also, don't use one resume for every single job you apply to. Each company has different needs and requirements, so when you apply, make sure that your resume is customized to each one.

It would help to put yourself in the recruiter's shoes and analyze what they look for in an employee. This would help you to analyze yourself, and know which aspects of yourself to project and which ones to not show so much.

How to apply for a job?

There are several different streams. If you're planning to apply for a postgraduate work permit (PGWP), the first graduate from a designated university. You can apply for up to 180 days after you get your final marks. This permit is valid for a maximum of 3 years and costs 255 CAD to process.

Another work permit is an employer-specific work permit. This requires you to provide employer details and takes 5 days to process.

Then there's the open work permit. You can apply for this if you're a destitute student, applied for a permanent residence, are being abused at work, and are eligible for a PGWP.
